Leading with AI

Integrating AI into your team involves more than just a tech rollout; it requires thoughtful leadership to prevent burnout and anxiety. Leading in Uncertain Times - HBR Article

We’ve all been there—trying to make a solid plan while the economy sends a dozen mixed signals at once. It’s tempting to hunt for a "perfect" prediction, but the truth is that the world is just too messy for that. Real leadership isn't about having a crystal ball; it's about getting comfortable with the fog and making smart bets anyway.

In their recent HBR article, Don A. Moore and Max H. Bazerman break down five tools to help you navigate this unpredictability without losing your cool:

  • Think in Expected Values: Instead of a single "best guess," multiply potential outcomes by their probability to find the path with the highest long-term payoff.

  • Use the Wisdom of the Crowd: Stop looking for one "perfect" expert; you'll get much more accurate results by averaging the opinions of a small group of high-performers.

  • Calibrate Your Confidence: Don't just aim to be "confident"—aim to be accurate. Tracking your past predictions helps you avoid the trap of overconfidence that leads to expensive mistakes.

  • Hedge Your Bets: Since you can't be 100% certain, plan for different scenarios by considering whether it’s more costly to over-prepare or under-prepare for what's coming.

  • Communicate Uncertainty with Confidence: You don’t have to feign certainty to be a leader. You gain more credibility by being clear and precise about exactly what you don't know.
